Providence Health & Services Certified Nursing Assistant II *On-Call* in Seward, Alaska

Description:

Providence is calling a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) II (Nursing, Variable Shift, 0.0 FTE) to Providence Seward Medical Center in Seward, Alaska. In this position you will:

  • Possess knowledge of the Hospital and National Patient Safety Goals: Uses at least two ways of identifying patients, name and date of birth

  • Use hand cleaning guidelines, before and after patient contact

  • Exercise all preventative measures in patient fall prevention

  • Participate in quality improvement related initiatives

  • Communicate effectively and works collaboratively with the RN or other caregivers regarding patient issues, family issues, MD issues, equipment, and dietary needs to ensure team success

  • Communicate in a compassionate manner to patients, families, and visitors

  • Assist in the patient admitting, transfer, and discharge procedure

  • Transport patients via wheelchair and stretcher

  • Check and restocks supplies and emergency equipment and replaces as instructed

  • Maintain and operate multiple pieces of equipment in a safe and effective manner to improve patient care

  • Measure and records vital signs, weights, bowel records, meal and fluid intake, admission paperwork, and other required documentation in the electronic medical record

  • Report changes observed in patients to the Nurse in a timely manner

  • Assist with and/or performs restorative and rehabilitative procedures as outlined and assigned by the care plan and with appropriate training

  • Provide range of motion exercises as outlined and assigned by the care plan and with appropriate training

  • Prepare and serve meals, between meals, bedtime and other nutritional snacks per posted menu and stated preferences of the patient

  • Be responsible for following all food safety rules (ServSafe), monitoring and documenting refrigerator, freezer and dish machine temperatures

  • Maintain and monitor inventory in kitchen, and orders food as needed

  • Performs sterilization of medical instruments when needed. Maintains sterilization room, as well as products and equipment needed.

  • Anticipates and prioritizes workflow and adjust work assignments to prevent delays and meet work flow demands. Works with team to achieve a wide range of department specific duties and activities to maintain maximum productivity. Is self directed and displays initiative to maintain personal productivity and flexibility.

  • In the clinic setting, performs duties under the direction of the Clinic RN at a level consistent with their training and scope of their license. These duties include but are not limited to Check in patients and takes vital signs. Room set up, stocking and ordering of sutures and medical supplies. Cleaning exam rooms after each patient encounter. Sterilize instruments and records resterilization of instruments as needed. Answer phone calls.

  • Completes Competency Plan for assigned job and department.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Completed training as a Certified Nursing Assistant

  • Current State of Alaska CNA certification

  • New CNA graduates and candidates that hold a current, unencumbered nurse assistant certification or registration from another U.S. state must obtain the State of Alaska certification within 4 months of hire

  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers

  • Current ServSafe food handlers’ certification within 4 months of hire

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 6 months of health care experience
