Providence Health & Services Coding Specialist III in Seward, Alaska
Providence is calling a Coding Specialist III (Business Services, Days, 1.0 FTE - 40 hours per week) to Seward Medical Center in Seward, Alaska. In this position you will:
CODING AND CHARGE CAPTURE: Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, appropriately sequences principle and secondary diagnoses in accordance with Coding Clinic and PSMCC Coding Guidelines; Works with Revenue Integrity to ensure proper coding of charges; Enters charges and procedures for all assigned area patients in the billing system.
INFORMATION SYSTEMS: Proficient in coding and information systems that capture coding, master patient index, billing, and the electronic medical record information; Ensures accuracy of registration and other applicable data fields.
ABSTRACTING: Abstract information from patient records using a variety of procedures, including but not limited to Epic, Epoint, 3M and ECS.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT: Participate in quality processing and productivity; Suggests and implements improvements to department operations; Participates in the auditing of coded records to ensure compliance; Participates in ongoing education as required for system and software implementation and updates; Proactively looks for ways to capture revenue by ensuring all procedures and charges are billed timely and coded correctly; Continuously audits nursing documentation for completeness; Keeps abreast of coding rule changes related to charges by attending continued education offerings.
CUSTOMER SERVICE: Communicate with physicians and other clinical department personnel to maintain timely and accurate coding; Acts as a liaison between HIS, Billing, and medical care providers to maintain patient records and ensure charges are accurately captured; Assists in physician and RN education as well as tracking and reporting of documentation and coding trends or issues; Educates staff on chargemaster and importance of correct charging and the need for appropriate documentation to validate charges.
TEAM CONCEPT: Support and organize co-workers to meet department goals; Participates and supports team decisions; Shares knowledge with team members; Participates in regular meetings; Assists in training and mentorship within the department; Communicates in a professional and timely way with team members.
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Three (3) years coding experience in ER, LTC, ancillary and inpatient encounters
Holds at least one of the following coding credentials: Registered Health Information Management Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Management Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
