Providence Health & Services RN - Team Advisor - LTC Nursing in Seward, Alaska


Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) Team Advisor ( LTC Nursing, Variable Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Seward Mountain Haven in Seward, Alaska. In this position you will:

  • RESIDENT ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENT (RAI): Complete the Resident Assessment Instrument process, including MDS’s RAP’s, care plans and other assignment to meet Federal and State regulations and quality expectations. Ensures completion of all required reports according to prescribed time frames. Ensures appropriate staff is informed of all significant changes of condition and facilitates accuracy of all MDS information. Collaborates with staff regarding the resolution of any problems.

  • PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS: Promote clinical care that meets professional standards of practice with an emphasize on an elder-directed philosophy.

  • TEAMWORK AND COMMUNICATION: may assign work and directs staff. Assists in the creation of supporting systems that enable staff and empower team members to jointly plan and deliver care. Role models collaboration and partnership with physicians, primary staff, residents, families and the departments. Schedules regular meetings with direct report staff and provide supervision, assure communication and to monitor operations.

  • LEADERSHIP: Provide visionary leadership. Uses leadership principles to anticipate and influence change. Determines resources and actions needed to accomplish objectives. Set priorities and manage time effectively. Identify potential problems/opportunities and plan contingent action. Develop new and unique ideas to improve existing systems or operations, and when new organizational approaches are needed. Encourage innovative efforts in others. Seek creative methods to resolve conflict. Gives clear directions, explain reason for decisions, and solicit the input of staff to enhance group capabilities.

  • HUMAN RESOURCES: Use independent judgment, effectively recommending and/or taking action related to hiring, selection, evaluating performance, disciplinary action and employee complaints and concerns. Conducts and documents employee performance on an annual basis and as needed. Uses appropriate interpersonal skills to guide others to accomplish objectives, facilitates teamwork, participation and cooperation. Delegates work so subordinates have the necessary direction, authority and skills to complete assignments.

  • QUALITY IMPROVEMENT: Review all quality reports/activities that affect quality of care and quality of life for a group of elders assigned. Ensures timely follow up to prevent recurrence of unusual occurrences, hazards/accidents or near misses. Identifies gaps in existing work processes and participates in resolution. Provides assistance to the Director of Nursing in the facilitation of the annual development and implementation of a QI Plan, addressing all aspects of clinical objectives. Develops staff to achieve quality outcomes.

  • SERVICE EXCELLENCE: Collaborate with all appropriate departments to promote optimal elder-directed care and customer service. Models and mentors the Customer Service Standards. Supports and promotes Service Excellence and Eden principles. Supports and fosters an environment to promote employee and resident survey participations. Reviews survey results with staff, develops action plans using staff input. Implements, monitors and adjusts action plans to achieve customer satisfaction.

  • BUDGET AND FINANCIAL RESOURCES: Provide input to the Director of Nurinsg and/or Administrator in the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets.

  • ADMISSIONS, DISCHARGE, TRANSFERS: Serve as a clinical resource to safely manage admission, discharge, and transfers. Reviews admission and re-admission orders. Reviews documentation for discharge charts. Ensure month end documentation is completed and provide education, direction and support as needed to team members.

  • INVESTIGATIONS: May provide assistance in the investigation of resident, family and employee concerns, such as but not limited to Unusual Occurrence Reports, Employee Injury reports, resident concern or one-one-on meetings. Identifies root cause and recommends corrective action plan. Prepares necessary and/or required reports according to department guidelines.

  • Implement care/services that recognize age/diversity specific needs/issues of customers served. Demonstrates awareness of human and resident’s rights in all aspects of care, treating each resident and co-worker with respect and dignity. Respects the rights of residents and employees, provides privacy and maintains confidentiality.

  • Work collaboratively with Environmental Service and other departments to maintain a safe environment for each resident. Maintains awareness of accident prevention practices and provides a safe environment for the residents and staff.

  • Complete Competency Plan for assigned job and department.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

  • Must maintain a current Alaska Registered Nurse license

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card must be from American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire.

  • One (1) year clinical nursing experience

  • Experience in gerontological nursing is necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

  • Resident Assessment Coordinator Certification

  • One (1) year clinical supervisory, management or resource.

  • Experience in long term care

Providence Mountain Haven is the first Green House® home in Alaska, which is includes 4-lodges, each with 10-Elders. Teams are self-managed, have consistent staffing, and have strong patient to caregiver ratio. Caregivers typically have 5:1 patient ratio and work 12-hour shifts. Nestled against Iron Mountain, in Seward, AK, it is a great home for Elders to live out their later years!
